What this film about: The Corpse Bride is an stop-motion animated (a la Nightmare Before Christmas) project produced by Tim Burton and directed by Mike Johnson (whose credits include work as an animator on NmBC and James and The Giant Peach). Caroline Thompson (Edward Scissorhands) and Pamela Pettler are adapting the story -- a Russian folk tale telling the accidental marriage of a man and his dead bride-- for their screenplay. The film is due in theaters October, 2005.

What happened to 'Undying Love'?
About two years ago Danny Elfman told Film Score Monthly: "I just optioned a book to do an original script based on a very fantastic story. It's a story that's based on a book called Undying Love by an author named Ben Harrison..." Since then the project has not materialized, so I have removed it from the upcoming projects listing. Here's a description of the film, for the curious:

"Undying Love; The True Story Of Passion That Defied Death By Ben Harrison. As romantic as The Bridges of Madison County, as macabre as Phantom of the Opera, here is the story of of Count Carl von Cosel who found his soulmate--a young tuberculosis patient--only to suffer her loss. Beyond grief, when she died, he removed her body from its tomb, called her his bride, and lived with her for seven years. Ben Harrison separates fact from myth and untangles the thread of intrigue in this gothic tale of obsessive love and melancoly madness".
