ANOTHER TROPHY FOR 'HOUSEWIVES' TO DUST
9/12/05: Danny's theme for Desperate Housewives won the Emmy Award for "Outstanding Title Music". On September 20th Hollywood Records will release a song compilation tie-in soundtrack album from the show. Elfman's theme made the album, but none of the regular series underscore or Steve Bartek's pilot score are included.

RAIMI INVADED BY BODY SNATCHER?
9/12/05: At a press conference for The Corpse Bride North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, Danny Elfman gave the straight goods on the battle behind-the-scenes on Spider-Man 2. Danny told Devin Faraci of Chud.com:

"Spider-Man 2 was a miserable experience... My connection to Sam got completely severed. As far as I'm concerned, he went to sleep and somebody put a pod next to him and when he awoke, he wasn’t the same person I've known for a decade."

Elfman then said he would not work with Raimi again. "He went from right there, number 2 on my list of favorite directors, to the last... To the exact opposite of everything I look for in a film experience. Everything I could do on Spider-Man ... Couldn't do on Spider-Man 2. He got so intensely attached to the temp music, I couldn't even adapt my own music. I couldn't get close enough to me."

"It's the first time I've ever walked from a director in twenty years, and hopefully the last time. He became intolerable. I've been on some heavy duty films, so to say that it had to be pretty bad. I have been in war zones you wouldn't believe in 55 films. But this is the first time I've said, I've had it. It's just not worth it. I would rather go back to waiting tables than to do Spider-Man 2 again."

ELFMAN BOOKED
9/12/05: Danny Elfman has signed on to score the live-action version of Charlotte's Web starring Dakota Fanning and directed by Gary (Thirteen Going On Thirty) Winick and Walt Disney Pictures' CG-animated A Day With Wilbur Robinson, directed by Stephen J. Anderson. Both films are set for release in 2006.

ELFMAN: CARNEGIE HALL IS CALLING
Updated 1/4/04: Danny Elfman has been commissioned by Carnegie Hall to compose an original work, titled "Schizophrenic's Serenade" for their American Composers series. The work, set to make it's world premiere on Wednesday, February 23, 2005 (not January 21 as first reported) at 8:00 PM, will be performed by the American Composers Orchestra, conducted by Steven Sloane. For more info visit CarnegiaHall.org. Thanks to "Ricardos" for the heads-up!

DANNY DOES 'DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES'
Danny Elfman has written the main title theme for ABC's big Fall season ensemble drama, Desperate Housewives (think suburban madness). Steve Bartek will handle the weekly scoring duties. The show premieres October 3rd at 9:00pm on ABC.

BEHIND THE CLASSIC: BOOK ON 'BATMAN'
Janet K. Halfyard, a senior lecturer at Birmingham Conservatoire, a faculty of the University of Central England, teaches courses in film music, and twentieth century and contemporary music. Get this: She's also written an entire book on Danny Elfman's Batman score. 192 pages of analysis, background and more! Due September 28th, Danny Elfman's Batman: A Film Score Guide, from Scarecrow Press, the book is currently available for pre-ordering at Amazon.com.

SONY SHOWS 'SPIDER-MAN 2' SCORE MATTERS
Much like the original Spider-Man score CD, Sony Music Soundtrax/Columbia Records will release Danny Elfman's Spider-Man 2 score CD on July 27th (delayed from the original July 20th date). The current "music from and inspired" soundtrack from Spider-Man 2 features two Elfman tracks, both suites of shorter cues. The song album debuted in the seventh spot on Billboard's Top 200. Soundclips and info from the score album will be on this site soon.

THE VOICES OF 'BRIDE'
2005 will be a busy year for Elfman and Burton fans, with two major projects the duo plan to collaborate on. First is Charlie and The Chocolate Factory and in October, the long anticipated stop-action animated The Corpse Bride, produced and potentially "codirected" by Burton, with animation by Will Vinton Studios (now under the supervision of NmBC director Henry Selick). The film's voice cast was recently announced, and it includes several Burton regulars: Johnny Depp (as Victor), Albert Finney, Helena Bonham Carter (as the Corpse Bride), Christopher Lee, Emily Watson (as Victor's wife, Victoria), and Joanna Lumley.

'CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY' AND... DRACULA?
On June 30th, Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures announced production on Tim Burton's Charlie and The Chocolate Factory had begun. The film, based on the story of Roald Dahl, stars Johnny Depp (his fourth film with Burton) as Willy Wonka, and Freddie Highmore (Two Brothers) as Charlie. The cast also includes Helena Bonham Carter, David Kelly, Noah Taylor, James Fox, Missi Pyle and Christopher Lee (!). The film is being produced by Brad Grey and Richard D. Zanuck from a screenplay by John August (Big Fish). Danny Elfman is scoring.

From the press release: "Acclaimed director Tim Burton brings his vividly imaginative style to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, about eccentric chocolatier Willy Wonka, and Charlie, a good-hearted boy from a poor family who lives in the shadow of Wonka's extraordinary factory. Long isolated from his own family, Wonka launches a worldwide contest to select an heir to his candy empire. Five lucky children, including Charlie, draw golden tickets from Wonka chocolate bars and win a guided tour of the legendary candy-making facility that no outsider has seen in 15 years. Dazzled by one amazing sight after another, Charlie is drawn into Wonka's fantastic world in this astonishing and enduring story".

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory hits theaters worldwide in 2005.
