ELFMAN: CARNEGIE HALL IS CALLING Danny Elfman has been commissioned by Carnegie Hall to compose an original work for their 2004/2005 season. The work, set to make it's world premiere on Friday, January 21, 2005 at 7:30 PM, will be performed by the American Composers Orchestra, conducted by Steven Sloane. Nat Murphy posted the following e-mail from Michael Geller, Executive Vice President & Executive Director of the American Composers Orchestra, on the forum: "Thank you for your inquiry regarding the commission of Danny Elfman for American Composers Orchestra's Orchestra Underground concert January 21, 2005. Mr. Elfman was selected by American Composers Orchestra's artistic leadership, Steven Sloane, music director; and Robert Beaser, artistic director. Our goal with Orchestra Underground is to challenge conventional notions about symphonic music, embracing multidisciplinary and collaborative work, novel instrumental and spatial orientations of musicians, new technologies and multimedia. The series will develop new repertoire, and provide fertile working ground for artists who have not traditionally had access to the orchestral ensemble." More information about American Composers Orchestra can be found at americancomposers.org. ELFMAN IN WITH 'BRIDE' IN '05 Ending speculation, Danny Elfman will indeed score The Corpse Bride, a stop-motion animated (a la Nightmare Before Christmas) project produced by Tim Burton and directed by Mike Johnson (whose credits include work as an animator on NmBC and James and The Giant Peach). Caroline Thompson (Edward Scissorhands) and Pamela Pettler are adapting the story -- a Russian folk tale telling the accidental marriage of a man and his dead bride-- for their screenplay. The film is due in theaters October, 2005.
