ELFMAN TAKES SHORT TRIP TO 'CHICAGO' SoundtrackNet has reported that Danny Elfman will write approximately fifteen minutes of jazz-based score for the upcoming Miramax musical Chicago starring Catherine Zeta-Jones, Renee Zellweger and Richard Gere. The score will be recorded in London. The film was directed by Rob Marshall BURTON'S 'BIG FISH' NOW FILMING Tim Burton's next film, Big Fish is set to begin filming this January in Alabama. The film stars Ewan McGregor and Albert Finney (to date, the only confirmed cast) as a dying father who spins wild tales about his own life (no, it's not a Jaws rip-off!). Big Fish is based upon the novel of the same name by Daniel Wallace. Danny Elfman is expected to score the picture. BMI HONORS "OUTSTANDING" ELFMAN In Los Angeles, on May 15, 2002, BMI honored the composers and songwriters of the music in the top-grossing films at its annual Film & Television Awards dinner. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the BMI award for Outstanding Career Achievement to composer Danny Elfman. The  prestigious award is given annually to the composer who has made significant contributions to film and TV music.At the dinner, Elfman was paid tribute by many of the directors with whom he has worked, including Tim Burton who described him as "a real artist in the sense that he is like his music and his music is like him. He brings that intuitive excitement to a project. He brings that intuitive excitement to a project. He respects tradition without doing it exactly." Calling Elfman's music for Spider-Man "rousing and uplifting," Sam Raimi (also via a video tribute) said, "He's a genius, he really is, that 'can't' word can't be thrown about it, but when you listen to his music and the diversity of it and how successful it is with the images, I don't know if there's a better word to describe him." |
