2001 ELFMAN ALBUM DELUGE!
After the disaster that was THE FAMILY MAN not being commercially released (although you can check out plenty of clips from the Academy Award, "For Your Consideration" CD here) fans can rejoice that three of Elfman's latest efforts will be released this spring and summer. First up is HEARTBREAKERS starring Sigourney Weaver, Gene Hackman and two breasts...Ahem I mean Jennifer Love Hewitt. John Debney is writing the score based on themes written by Elfman (like MY FAVORITE MARTIAN). RCA/Victor is releasing the HEARTBREAKERS album. Next up is Robert Rodriguez's SPY KIDS (see news item below) for which Elfman contributed the as-yet-unheard "Floop Song", for which CHAPTER III records will do the honors. Finally -- and here's the big news -- Sony Classical will release Elfman's score for PLANET OF THE APES. This is Elfman's first release on the Sony Classical label which has previously put out multiple John Williams, James Horner, Ennio Morricone and Rachel Portman albums. Should be big and have a generous running time! More info on all of these albums very soon.REAL SPIES...ONLY SMALLER! The new film from Robert Rodriguez (DESPERADO) titled SPY KIDS trailer debuted online last month. Keen eyes who viewed the trailer spotted the heartwarming credit: "Floop Song" by Danny Elfman. Reports first pegged Harry Gregson-Williams as the film's composer, but it has also been reported (by MusicFromTheMovies.com) that John Debney is scoring the film. However the name Chris Boardman (PAYBACK, additional orchestrations on NmBC) has also been mentioned. A look at the ever-unreliable Internet Movie Database lists Gregson-Williams, Debney, Gavin Greenaway, James McKee Smith and Heitor Pereira (guitar solos on MISSION:IMPOSSIBLE 2). Regardless, CHAPTER III (who previously released Elfman's A SIMPLE PLAN score album as COMPASS III) will be releasing the SPY KIDS soundtrack. I'll have info on that album very soon!WEBSITE OF THE APES RUNNING The official website for Tim Burton's PLANET OF THE APES is up and running. The teaser trailer plus an promotional interview with Burton are available to download at the Flash-intensive website. Slower modems beware! www.planetoftheapes.com WEBSITE FACELIFT THIS SUMMER Danny Elfman's Music For A Darkened People will undergo a facelift this summer. If time permits, this update should make things easier to get to, to read (i.e., brighter text!) and a few other improvements. This should be the biggest summer ever for elfman.filmmusic.com! Stay tuned... |
