BURTON/ELFMAN DVD ROUNDUP
There is plenty to get excited about if you're a fan of Elfman/Burton collaborations. It's been confirmed that there will be audio commentaries by both Tim Burton AND Danny Elfman on Warner Home Video's upcoming PEE-WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE DVD (complete with isolated music score and a handful of other extras). You can preorder the DVD from AMAZON.COM for delivery on May 2, 2000.Also due out on DVD this September is Columbia Tri-Stars super-special edition of MEN IN BLACK with isolated Elfman score (although this really doesn't mean much, seeing as the score album features almost all the significant music in the film). The real exciting news however is that Tim Burton is actively pursuing an isolated score for an EDWARD SCISSORHANDS DVD with commentary by Danny Elfman (now THAT would be something!). Burton has already finished up recording the commentary for the SLEEPY HOLLOW DVD (no release date yet), but contrary to what was first reported here earlier, Walt Disney Company is in charge of the NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS DVD set and not Tim Burton. Special thanks to Paul Tonks for the information! ELFMAN PAINTS MUSIC FOR "CONDO"?
The IMDB lists Danny Elfman as composer for John McNaughton's (WILD THINGS) CONDO PAINTING, based on the artist George Condo. More about the artist can be found here. Nothing is really known about the film/score besides the fact that it is a documentary - or even if Elfman is REALLY scoring this film (03/01/2000: according to a post on the discussion board Philip Glass has written the score). ELFMAN AN X-MEN? NOT LIKELY Yes I did emblazon MFADP with news that Danny Elfman would be scoring X-MEN. Well I was wrong. To put things in perspective, FILM SCORE MONTHLY printed the same news in their last issue - so you can't criticize me too much! Michael Kamen (THE IRON GIANT, DIE HARD) is scoring the picture instead. |
IN BRIEF... Who cares about the glitz and glamor of the flabby and fake Academy Awards when I hand out accolades such as "Best Score" - all named after me! Check out the 1999 Elfmaniac Awards to see who the big winners are. I'm excited to announce that I'm now active editor/webmaster of CINEMUSIC ONLINE. This is a great opportunity to expand the audience for MFADP. Check the site for my review of SLEEPY HOLLOW. ![]() The rave reviews for Danny Elfman's SLEEPY HOLLOW score are starting to surface. Here's a list of links to reviews some online film music critics have written: Anywhere But Here, Sleepy Hollow Modern Vampires and more.... |
