ELFMAN'S
'PSYCHO' SUPERVISION RUFFLES ENTHUSIAST FEATHERS
Word
that Danny Elfman would be supervising the PSYCHO remake score [after this
website, thanks to information sent to me, reported it first!] went around
fast. Most are dismayed or angry about what Universal Pictures is
calling a "recreation", as Alfred Hitchcock's original film is considered
to be a classic. Whatever the public's perception of the film is,
a highly interesting element of the film will be how Bernard Herrmann's
score will be handled. While there is no word yet how the music will be adapted, performed or interpreted or whether or not Danny Elfman will bring something new to the score, rest assured that with Danny Elfman's respect for Herrmann [a major influence] means a great deal of care will be taken with this project. >>[ DANNY ELFMAN'S NEW PROJECTS]<< JACKSON'S 'LORD OF THE RINGS', TUNES BY ELFMAN? New Line Cinema announced it's purchase of the rights to produce film's based on J.R.R Tolkien's literary classic fantasy trilogy. Their choice as director - Peter Jackson ended long speculation as to whether or not he was working on a film version of THE HOBBIT or was to next remake KING KONG. Jackson as you probably already know directed the classic [in my mind anyways] BRAIN DEAD (A.K.A. DEAD ALIVE) and THE FRIGHTENERS, which Danny Elfman scored. Could this mean that Jackson will once again call upon Danny?
With three films set for production back to back and $130 million dollars
of New Line's money at stake, a major composer will have to be signed.
Jackson described the musical direction as being "celtic" [natch - TITANIC].
Which could also mean something along the lines of Elfman's Academy Award
nominated GOOD WILL HUNTING score.Ain't-It-Cool News has a letter from Jackson addressing fan questions on the production. Keep checking for confirmation from Elfman on this one. PREMIERE PLANS SIMPLE Sam Raimi's much anticipated follow up to THE QUICK AND THE DEAD has finally come. Starring Bill Paxton and Billy Bob Thornton as two brothers who stumble upon $4.4 million in a crashed airplane. Mayhem ensues! The film is premiereing at The International Toronto Film Festival, which I hope to attend this September. The score promises to be an intersting one from Danny Elfman and is to be recorded in London. What makes that special is AFM re-use fees don't apply, and a lengthy score album (preferably 50-55 minutes) is highly probable. If my plan to see SIMPLE PLAN works I'll include sentiments on this website as soon as possible. >>[ DANNY ELFMAN'S NEW PROJECTS]<< LEO'S NON-'PSYCHO' TEENBEAT Things seem to have cooled down for Lion's Gate Ent. now that Leonardo DiCaprio has officially passed on the controversial film AMERICAN PSYCHO. Marion Harron, the original screenwriter and director has returned and apparently will get her first choice - Chrisitan Bale - to play the role of the crazed killer. DiCaprio can go back to preening for the cameras now that he's the softer, gentler actor. |
BRIEFLY... "Suzie's Theme" from the TO DIE FOR score is performed by Danny Elfman, Gus Van Sant with the accompaniament of four female singers - AKA Gus and The Suzettes. A gentleman posted to Usenet
