Death ain't no way to make a living!12/2/05: Before The Lord of The Rings, when Peter Jackson was just an unknown genre filmmaker, he cranked out his Hollywood debut, The Frighteners, scored by our man, Danny Elfman. Underfed in the promotion department, and released in a busy summer season, The Frighteners failed to scare up much at the box office. Now, almost ten years later, billions of Hobbit and Elf dollars later, and within weeks of Jackson's King Kong hitting theaters, Universal has ressurected The Frighteners with a special edition, director's cut DVD. Essentially the old laserdisc in DVD form, all of the material from that previous release has been carried over to this single, double-sided DVD edition. Included - in the more than four hour(!!) behind-the-scenes feature - is an extensive segment on Danny Elfman's score, including vintage Elfman interview, scoring session footage, music and sound effects comparisons and more. The DVD is available at Amazon.com 'Serenada' recording underway 12/1/05: In the first week of December Danny Elfman and co. congregated at the Newman Scoring Stage on the Fox lot to record "Serenada Schizophrana", his original piece commissioned by the American Composers Orchestra and performed at Carnegia Hall, New York, last February. Word is the work, which runs just over forty minutes, will be released on album by Sony and will serve as the soundtrack to the Imax film Deep Sea 3D (see below). Photos from the "Serenada" sessions are available at SoundtrackNet. Elfman goes 'Deep' and in 3D too 11/29/05: Comingsoon.net reports (via the msg. board) that Danny Elfman will score Warner Bros.' Imax film Deep Sea 3D. The film, directed by Howard Hall, is narrated by Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet. According to the website, "[Deep Sea 3D] transports audiences deep below the ocean surface.
