Hollywood Records settles
the score January 12 with the eagerly awaited release of Danny Elfman's
original motion picture score for Touchstone Pictures' A CIVIL ACTION.
One of the winter season's biggest releases, the legal drama stars John
Travolta and Robert Duvall, directed by Oscar winner Steven Zaillian, and
produced by Scott Rudin, Robert Redford and Rachel Pfeffer. |
| His range soon broadened
to include the Wagnerian-like scores for BATMAN and BATMAN RETURNS, the
retro DICK TRACY, the orchestral fantasty and high-energy urban jazz for
MIDNIGHT RUN and the mesmerizing, lyrical score for EDWARD SCISSORHANDS,
which still stands as one of the composer's finest efforts. For the
Burton-produced stop-motion animation musical, THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS,
Elfman not only produced a spectacular score, but also wrote 10 songs and
provided the singing voice for its central character, Jack Skellington. In recent years, Elfman has brought his unique vision to scores for BLACK BEAUTY, DOLORES CLAIBORNE, DEAD PRESIDENTS and MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE. Elfman has received two Academy Ward nominations; one for his wry score for MEN IN BLACK, the other for his hauntingly atmospheric work for GOOD WILL HUNTING. Currently, Elfman is adapting Bernard Hermann's famous score for Gus Van Sant's remake of Alfred Hitchcock's PSYCHO, is composing the score for Jon Turtletaub's INSTINCT and is re-teaming with Tim Burton for THE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW and director Sam Raimi on A SIMPLE PLAN. In this legal thriller based on a true story, John Travolta stars as Jan Schlichtmann, a tenacious personal-injury attorney whose fierce determination entangles him in a case that threatens to destroy him. The case -- which appears straightforward -- instead evolves into a labyrinthine lawsuite of vast dimensions, in the intelligent fast paced drama, A CIVIL ACTION.
